Painful Plantar Corns & Calluses Removed One of the most common reasons people come into the podiatry clinic is because of painful corns and calluses under the ball of the foot. A lot of people don’t realise that these are usually caused by increased pressure and friction over time. As your body tries to protect itself, it builds up thicker layers of hard skin. In many cases, a hard corn forms underneath a cap of callus, making every step feel like you’re walking on a small stone. In today’s treatment, I’m carefully removing three painful plantar forefoot corns and the surrounding callus. The goal isn’t to remove as much skin as possible—it’s about removing just the right amount. Take too little and the pain remains. Take too much and the area can become sore and uncomfortable. It’s all about relieving pressure while protecting the healthy skin underneath. Once the corns and calluses have been reduced, we smooth the area with a sanding technique (done off camera) before applying an emollient to help keep the skin hydrated and reduce future hard skin build-up. Of course, removing the hard skin is only part of the solution. The important question is why did it develop in the first place? Common causes include: ✔️ Excess pressure under the forefoot ✔️ Poorly fitting footwear ✔️ Foot structure and biomechanics ✔️ Prominent bones beneath the foot ✔️ Reduced natural cushioning under the ball of the foot If we don’t address the underlying cause, the corns and calluses will usually return. Depending on the reason, treatment may include better footwear, padding, orthotics, or other pressure-relieving strategies. For many patients, regular maintenance every 6–8 weeks helps keep them comfortable, reduces pain, and allows them to stay active without the discomfort of walking on painful corns. If you’re putting up with painful corns or calluses, you don’t have to. Getting them treated properly—and finding the cause—can make a huge difference to your comfort. 🌐 https://ergonx.com.au #FootPain #CornRemoval #CallusRemoval #Podiatrist #Ergonx
