Sometimes corns can look really bad — thick, yellow, and built up — but that doesn’t always mean they’re deep or painful. In this case, we’re removing corns from a PMA5 area. Once the overlying callus is carefully reduced, you can see that the core itself is quite superficial. Because it’s not deep, it’s usually not very painful for the patient. These types of corns are often caused by pressure and friction rather than a sharp bony prominence underneath. With proper debridement and pressure management, relief is usually quick and straightforward. It’s a good reminder that appearance doesn’t always equal severity — and why proper assessment matters before assuming the worst.
